We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ryan Rodney Cox, a beloved South African professional road racing cyclist. Ryan was born on April 9th, 1979, and developed a love for cycling at the tender age of eight. He went pro in 2000, joining Amore & Vita–Giubileo 2000–Beretta before moving on to Team Cologne in Germany. In 2003, Cox joined Team Barloworld and his career flourished. He won the South African National Road Race Championships in 2004 and 2005, inspiring many with his dedication and passion for the sport.
Tragically, on August 1st, 2007, the main artery in his left leg burst, only three weeks after he had undergone a vascular lesion operation in France. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals at Kempton Park Hospital, Ryan passed away, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and a bright future that was cut short.
The cycling community mourns the loss of this talented athlete, whose contributions to the sport will be remembered for years to come. Ryan Rodney Cox will always be remembered for his commitment, passion, and love for cycling, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
