South African media industry leader Nkateko Mabaso passed away on June 19, 2024. The cause of death has not been made public.
Mabaso was a prominent figure in the South African entertainment landscape, having held key positions at MultiChoice, M-Net, and most recently, Netflix Africa. He was known for his innovation and instrumental role in the growth of M-Net's mass and middle market offerings, including the popular Mzansi Magic channel.
Industry colleagues described Mabaso, fondly known as "NK", as a maverick within the M-Net world. Nomsa Philiso, who succeeded Mabaso as CEO of General Entertainment at MultiChoice South Africa, expressed her sadness at his passing. "Nkateko was a visionary leader who played a critical role in shaping the South African entertainment industry," she said.
Mabaso is survived by his wife Mathapelo, son Tshimologo, and parents Xithlangoma Bob and Lizzy Mabaso.
