Mike Procter: South African Cricket Legend Passes Away The cricketing world mourns the passing of South African great Mike Procter, who died on February 17, 2024, at the age of 77. Procter, a legendary all-rounder, succumbed to complications following heart surgery.

Procter's career was tragically cut short by the apartheid era, which isolated South Africa from international competition for much of the 1970s and 1980s. Despite this, his talent shone brightly. A fierce fast bowler and a hard-hitting batsman, he excelled in domestic cricket and during his limited international appearances.

Playing in just seven Tests, all against Australia, Procter's bowling figures were phenomenal, taking 41 wickets at an outstanding average of 15.02. He was part of an undefeated South African team during that period, winning six out of the seven matches.

Procter's impact extended beyond his playing days. He served as the first coach of the post-isolation South African cricket team and was a respected match referee for the ICC. He was also a much-loved figure at English county Gloucestershire, where he played for many years.

Mike Procter's legacy will be that of a player with exceptional talent who embodied the spirit of the game. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the cricketing community worldwide.

A memorial service was held in his hometown of Durban, and a celebration of his life was live-streamed at the Gloucestershire Cricket Club's Seat Unique Stadium.
