Jolidee Matongo, a South African politician who served a brief but impactful term as mayor of Johannesburg, passed away tragically in a car accident on September 18, 2021.

Matongo's career in public service began as the member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for finance under Geoff Makhubo. When Makhubo succumbed to COVID-19 complications, Matongo was elected mayor in August 2021.

Though his time in office was cut short, Matongo was known for his humility and dedication to the people of Johannesburg. Those who knew him described him as approachable and committed to improving the city's economy and opportunities for all residents.
