Celebrating the Life of Scebi Dlamini (Inkosi Yamagcokama)1996 – 2026

The South African music industry and traditional arts community mourn the tragic and untimely passing of Maskandi powerhouse Scebi Dlamini, affectionately known to millions as Inkosi Yamagcokama. Scebi passed away on Sunday, 9 August 2026, following a tragic car accident in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.

He was 29 years old.Born in 1996 in the culturally rich heartland of Msinga, KwaZulu-Natal, Scebi possessed a natural affinity for storytelling and traditional Zulu melodies from an early age.

As he grew, so did his ambition to modernise and elevate Maskandi music. Adopting the moniker Inkosi Yamagcokama—a title reflecting his style, grace, and commanding presence—he transformed the genre, infusing modern rhythms while fiercely preserving the heritage of his ancestors.

His sharp lyricism, exceptional guitar skills, and charismatic stage presence quickly propelled him into the upper echelons of South African music.Beyond his chart-topping hits and vibrant performances, Scebi was a beacon of pride for his community.

He dressed immaculately, carried himself with humility, and used his platform to unite and inspire young people across the nation.

His music spoke of love, survival, identity, and the beauty of traditional life, leaving a profound impact on the hearts of Maskandi devotees globally.Scebi’s final journey was tragically cut short while traveling to do what he loved most: performing for his fans at the Basadi Let's Dance Festival.

The collision, which occurred near Melomed Private Hospital, also claimed the life of his beloved backing vocalist and crew member, Gamu Mchunu, marking a double tragedy for their musical family.

He was laid to rest with a hero’s farewell in mid-August 2026 in Msinga.
