Linda Mkhize, known by his stage name PRO or Pro Kid, was a legendary South African rapper and producer. Born and raised in Klipspruit, Soweto on June 22, 1981, he grew up immersed in the vibrant culture of the township, where he developed a passion for music at a young age.

As a teenager, he made a name for himself in the local hip-hop scene by participating in rap battles and cyphers, showcasing his undeniable talent as a lyricist and rapper. In 2004, he won an emcee battle competition hosted by Tbo Touch, which caught the attention of YFM, a popular urban youth radio station. His success on the show led to a breakthrough record deal and set the stage for his remarkable career.

In 2005, he released his debut album Heads & Tales, which featured the hit single "Soweto." The song became an instant classic, an anthem for his beloved birthplace, and showcased his unique style of rapping in a blend of Soweto vernacular (tsotsi taal) and English. PRO's music spoke directly to the realities of life in the townships, addressing issues like poverty, crime, and inequality with a raw and unflinching honesty that resonated with listeners across South Africa.

Over the years, PRO continued to release critically acclaimed albums, collaborating with other artists and pushing the boundaries of kasi rap. He became a role model for a generation of young musicians, inspiring them to pursue their dreams and make their voices heard.

Tragically, on August 8, 2018, PRO passed away after suffering a seizure while visiting a friend in Johannesburg CBD. His sudden and untimely death sent shockwaves throughout the South African music community and beyond. Media stations across the country paid tribute to him, highlighting his immense contributions to the development of kasi rap and the broader hip-hop genre.

PRO's legacy lives on through his music, which continues to inspire and uplift his fans. He will always be remembered as a true pioneer of South African hip-hop, a talented artist, and a beloved friend and family member. May his soul rest in peace.
