In Loving Memory of Shoki Mokgapa (17 August 1984 – 26 September 2018)

The world of film and television mourns the untimely loss of Shoki Mokgapa, a brilliant South African actress whose talent and dedication left an indelible mark on the industry. Shoki's journey on this Earth ended on 26th September 2018, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be remembered.

Born on 17th August 1984, Shoki Mokgapa mesmerized audiences with her exceptional acting prowess and versatility. Her unforgettable portrayal of Rachel in the film "Sink" showcased her immense talent and garnered critical acclaim, cementing her status as a rising star. Shoki's ability to embody her characters with authenticity and depth captivated viewers and earned her admiration from peers and fans alike.

Her career began to flourish in 2008 when she made her television debut in the acclaimed SABC3 drama series "The Lab." As Tumi, Pearl Lusipho's dedicated personal assistant, Shoki showcased her acting range and showcased her ability to bring complex characters to life. She continued to grace screens, both locally and internationally, appearing in renowned productions such as "Wild at Heart" and "Silent Witness."

Beyond her on-screen achievements, Shoki Mokgapa played an instrumental role in co-founding the POPArt Theatre at the Maboneng Precinct. Her passion for the arts and her desire to create a platform for emerging talent led to the establishment of a vibrant creative space, leaving a lasting impact on the artistic community.

Tragically, Shoki battled clinical depression and anxiety throughout her life. Despite her personal struggles, she remained an inspiration to many, with her extraordinary talent shining through the darkness. Regrettably, on 26th September 2018, Shoki Mokgapa's journey came to an end in Johannesburg. She was just 34 years old.

To honor her memory, a memorial event was held on 2nd October 2018 at the Market Theatre, where friends, family, colleagues, and fans gathered to celebrate her remarkable life and pay tribute to her immense contributions to the world of entertainment. Shoki's presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of actors and artists.
