South African football lost a legend with the passing of John "Dungi" Moeti on February 6, 2023. Moeti, a talented midfielder, left his mark on both club and national teams.

Born in Soweto in 1967, Moeti's career flourished with Orlando Pirates. He was a key figure in their 1995 CAF Champions League victory, a historic moment for South African football. His skills were on display for Bafana Bafana as well, earning 29 caps and contributing to their 1996 African Cup of Nations triumph. Tragically, an injury on the eve of the 1998 World Cup prevented him from participating in that landmark tournament for South Africa.

Moeti's playing career continued with SuperSport United before his retirement in 2001. He leaves behind a legacy of exceptional talent and sportsmanship.
