It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Siphamandla ‘Spepe’ Mtolo, a prominent South African footballer born on 28 November 1993. Mtolo, who was widely regarded as one of the country’s most talented midfielders, passed away on March 6th, 2023, at the age of 29.

Mtolo’s rise to prominence in the world of football began in KwaZulu-Natal, where he grew up and honed his skills in makeshift tournaments that attracted the attention of scouts from low-division clubs. He quickly made a name for himself and was soon signed by Uthongathi FC, where he played a crucial role in the club’s promotion to the National First Division in the 2016/17 season.

Mtolo’s exceptional defensive capabilities and ability to create opportunities in the middle of the park did not go unnoticed, and in 2020, he was offered an irresistible offer by Richards Bay FC to play in the PSL. Together with the rest of the squad, Mtolo played an instrumental part in the club’s rise to becoming a Top Four contender in South Africa’s top-flight league.

Mtolo’s passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and fans alike. He will be remembered for his exceptional talent, his unwavering commitment to the sport, and his infectious personality. His legacy will live on, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Spepe.
